Report: Moors 3 York City 3

Moors came from two goals down to secure a 3-3 draw as their final pre-season friendly against York City served up some excellent entertainment at The Brewery Field.

With just seven days to go until the start of the new National League North campaign, Moors rounded-off their warm-up schedule with an encouraging display against The Minstermen.

It was the visitors who settled quicker and were in front on 12 minutes when Joe Felix got in down the right-hand side before sending an inviting low ball into the middle which was converted by Marvin Armstrong for 1-0.

City doubled their lead on 22 minutes when Lenell John-Lewis rose above everyone in the middle to connect powerfully with a cross from the right and his header flashed past Brad James.

Moors got a lifeline just after the half-hour when a York defender nudged Glen Taylor in the back inside the area and the front man picked himself to score from the resultant penalty.

James made a good save to deny York a third goal not long afterwards when he parried away Tyrese Sinclair’s drive, while the visitors’ keeper Harrison Male also did well to turn Rob Ramshaw’s volley round the post.

It was all-square just before half time when Reece Staunton did brilliantly to drive forward with the ball to feed Isaac Fletcher on the left and his low ball into the middle was expertly dispatched into the top corner by Taylor for 2-2.

The second half was a little less fluent as both sides made multiple changes, but it was York who got their noses back in front on 71 minutes when Billy Chadwick’s perfectly judged flick header bounced beyond Brad James.

However, just three minutes later Moors were awarded another penalty when Olly Dyson – on loan from York – was shoved over in the box. Taylor didn’t need a second invitation and rammed home his third of the afternoon from the spot.

Ramshaw could even have won it for Moors in the final few seconds after being picked out on the right of the area, but his powerful shot clipped the bar on its way over.
