Moors Ladies Move Focus Back To League

Moors Ladies return to NERWFL Premier Division action on Sunday when they play host to York Railway Institute at The Brewery Field (2pm kick-off).

After finding a way past Gateshead Rutherford on penalties in the FA Cup, Brent Smithson’s side now restore their attention to the league.

York RI are new to the Premier Division this season and have had a tricky start, currently lying bottom of the pile after tasting defeat in each of their three games so far.

Moors were 4-1 winners over Hull United on their last league outing and they will aim to build on that platform when they welcome York to The Brewery Field on Sunday.

“It’s great to be back at home again after the drama of getting through in the FA Cup last weekend,” Smithson told us.

“We got an amazing turnout and support from the fans in the cup game, and I am sure that they will be right behind us again on Sunday.

“We created a lot of chances against Rutherford, but we weren’t able to turn those into goals for a number of reasons, so we’ve worked hard in training this week to try and help us convert more opportunities.”

Smithson has a number of players unavailable for selection this weekend. Coral Colledge and Julia McGovern are away on their honeymoon, while Beth Enguita and Aimee Steele are also missing.

However, goalkeeper Sophie Miller is expected to return to face York after missing last weekend’s cup win in which Alex Saunders deputised between the posts.

“When players aren’t available it opens the door for others,” added Smithson.

“I want to see those who come into the side this weekend to do everything they can to take that opportunity and show me why they should be in the team.”

Admission is £3 for adults and completely free for all those under 12 – fans can buy tickets in advance online or pay by cash or card on the turnstiles ahead of kick-off.
