Isaac Fletcher was once again the hero for Moors as his ninth goal of the season was enough to see off Chorley and clinch a place in the next round of the FA Cup.
The midfielder’s spectacular curling effort just after the hour proved the tie’s decisive moment during a hard-fought encounter with The Magpies at The Brewery Field.
Given Moors’ record on home soil and Chorley’s strength on their travels, it was always likely to be a tight affair but Fletcher’s magical finish illuminated an often gritty affair.
Glen Taylor had the afternoon’s first chance of note when he met Callum Ross’ cross from the right with a firm header which visiting keeper Matt Urwin did well to push away.
At the other end, Mark Ellis saw a head claimed by Moors keeper Brad James while Graeme Lee’s men twice cleared off their line after a dangerous corner from the right caused chaos in the penalty area.
Chorley could have gone in front in the second half when Warren Clarke charged into space on the left only to see his low drive superbly repelled by James as Moors survived.
It was then the time for Fletcher to take centre-stage. Picking up the ball on the left, Fletcher burrowed inside to despatch a sumptuous curling finish beyond Urwin and into the far top corner.
After that, Moors had to defend with real determination. Ellis saw a header drop wide from a corner but that was as close as the visitors came, with Michael Ledger and Ben Beals both inspired form.
