Moors suffered defeat on home soil for the second time in four days as King’s Lynn Town came from behind to earn three points at The Brewery Field.
Graeme Lee’s men were keen to respond positively following Saturday’s reverse at the hands of Chorley and they looked on course to do so when Junior Mondal’s first goal for the Club had them in the driving seat at half time.
However, high-flying King’s Lynn produced a powerful second half performance and goals from skipper Greg Taylor and centre-back Tom Wilson turned the game on its head and clinched The Linnets’ fourth win in their last five games.
Without Glen Taylor who remained injured, Will Harris continued to lead the attack while Mondal was handed his first Moors start in place of the suspended Isaac Fletcher.
It was the visitors who settled quickest, and they played some good football in the early stages as Moors struggled to find any productive time in possession.
However, things swung dramatically on seven minutes when Corey McKeown’s delightful, lofted pass set Rob Ramshaw through on goal and when he was bundled over by Cody Johnson, the referee awarded a penalty. Harris took responsibility from the spot, but his effort was superbly kept out by Linnets keeper Paul Jones down to his left.
Despite not taking advantage, Moors did look the better side following the penalty and almost went in front when Mondal let fly from 25 yards only for his shot to take a deflection and flash over the bar.
Ramshaw came even closer to opening the scoring on the half hour. Reece Staunton fired a brilliant ball over the top for the midfielder who took a perfect first touch but then drilled his shot into the body of Jones who stood tall to block.
The breakthrough arrived on 38 minutes. Moors swept forward menacingly down the left and Harris drove into space before delivering a fierce cross into the box which was parried by the keeper only as far as Mondal who gleefully fired home for 1-0.
There was a relatively quiet start to the second period, though Moors could have doubled their advantage when Ramshaw got on the end of Matty Dolan’s free-kick from the left but glanced a header into the near post side-netting.
After losing Dan Rowe to an injury just after the hour, Moors were pegged back at 1-1 on 68 minutes by their visitors. A free-kick was only partially cleared and The Linnets worked the ball back across to the left where Taylor cut inside to fire an unstoppable shot across Brad James and into the far top corner.
Josh McCammon drove a shot just wide, while James had to make a big save to deny Ross Crane who had got space on the left side of the box. Mondal had a chance at the other end but steered a shot too close to Jones who saved down to his left.
James had to be alert again on 84 minutes when Finlay Barnes ducked inside from the right to find a yard to fire on goal, but the Moors keeper got down quickly to his right to parry it away.
However, there was heartbreak two minutes later. Tom Walker’s teasing free-kick from the left found Wilson in space inside the area and he flicked a header beyond James to set off wild celebrations among the hardy travelling support.
Moors had a half chance to have snatched a point at the death when Olly Dyson managed to get on the end of Staunton’s cross from the left, but the loan star send his header the wrong side of the post.
