Moors Ladies are also in NERWFL action at The Brewery Field this weekend when they host league-leaders Chester-le-Street Town on Sunday afternoon (2pm kick-off).
It’s the first of a double header against the visitors, who will return to The Brewery Field next Sunday to face Moors in the next round of the Durham County Cup.
Brent Smithson’s side will be keen to get back to Premier Division business after suffering a heavy defeat in their FA Cup First Round tie at Burnley last weekend.
However, the Moors boss is keen to use that experience to help drive improvement and is hoping that his players can provide a reaction when they welcome Chester-le-Street on Sunday.
“It was always going to be a tough game against Burnley, we all knew that,” he admitted.
“Even still, we were all bitterly disappointed with the result and I am looking for a positive response when we get back down to league action this weekend.
“The Brewery Field is always a great place for the players to play, we’re usually backed by a fantastic crowd, and I am sure the fans will be out in force again on Sunday to get behind the players.”
Moors currently sit fifth in the table having won three of their four fixtures so far this season, though their cup exploits mean they have games in hand on all of the other teams in the division.
Visitors Chester-le-Street were relegated from the National League last season and immediately installed as one of the favourites for the Premier Division title in 2024/25.
They are making good on that reputation so far this term and sit at the top of the table having enjoyed an unbeaten start to the campaign, claiming five wins from six.
“They have shown no ill effects after their relegation and have had a great start to the season,” added Smithson.
“We know they are a very good team with some excellent players so this will be another tough challenge, but the players are really looking forward to it.
“I know that if we play to our potential, we can match anybody in this league, so this Sunday gives us a great opportunity to showcase that.”
Smithson has a strong squad to select from this weekend, though Coral Colledge is still working her way back towards full fitness after injury.
Fellow defender Lucy McIntosh is also unavailable as she continues her role as the lead medic for England Women’s Amputee team in the sport’s first ever World Cup in Columbia.
Admission on Sunday is just £3 for adults, while Under 12s are completely free. Fans can choose to buy their tickets in advance online or pay by card or cash at the turnstiles.
