Moors have pulled off an extra special transfer coup with the confirmation that Santa Claus has signed a short-term deal to join us in Spennymoor during December.
The big man has enjoyed successful stints at The Brewery Field and across the town in past years and Moors boss Graeme Lee has now agreed terms on his return for 2024.
Working in partnership with Spennymoor Town Council, Moors in the Community will now ensure that Santa Claus has a full programme of activity in Spennymoor and the surrounding areas in the run up to the big day.
“It’s cracking news for everyone in the town,” said a delighted Lee as the ink dried on Santa’s contract.
“He’s exactly the type of signing we’ve been looking for to give us the edge during the crucial festive period, so we’re delighted it’s all confirmed because we’ve been working on it for almost a year.
“For a big man, he’s very mobile and he covers a lot of ground. He’s good at getting into tight spaces, he will give us some real ‘presents’ and he always delivers when it matters.”
Santa’s contract will begin on Saturday 30th November when he will launch Santa’s Grotto in the Town Hall before switching on the Christmas lights alongside Mayor Cllr Derek Taylor that evening.
From 2nd December through to 13th December, Santa will reside in his Town Hall grotto during which he will meet hundreds of children from across the town in pre-arranged visits from the majority of Spennymoor’s primary schools.
As part of his deal at The Brewery Field, Santa will even be coming to watch as Moors play host to Leamington on Saturday 14th December – keep an eye out for him at the ground from 2pm onwards!
Then, in the last week before Christmas, Santa will move to his Brewery Field grotto for sessions on Tuesday 17th December (1pm-3pm) and Wednesday 18th December (3pm-5pm), where parents and guardians can bring children along to visit him.
We’ve also been told that Santa will be sticking around to be present at our two Moors in the Community Christmas Parties which are taking place on the evenings of Tuesday 17th December and Wednesday 18th December.
