Moors Launch Christmas Foodbank Appeal

Moors in the Community are proud to announce the launch of its annual Christmas Foodbank Appeal in partnership with County Durham Foodbank and Trinity Methodist Church.

This initiative aims to support individuals and families within the local community who need it most during the festive season.

The appeal, which runs from 25th November to 13th December, invites supporters and residents to donate essential food items to help ensure no one in Spennymoor goes without this Christmas.

One in five people in the UK are living below the poverty line and the Foodbank aims to support those people in crisis with emergency food.

“Between April and September this year, the Foodbank within Trinity fed 475 people for at least three days,” explained Joy Carver from the Foodbank.

“Bearing in mind that is just from the summer period when we don’t need the heating on, those are big numbers – and we haven’t reached the festive season yet.

“Every Tuesday in Trinity, we provide a warm welcome, a friendly face, a hot cuppa and a toastie to anyone who comes through our doors.

“We also offer pre-loved clothing and school uniform and aim to point people in the right direction for any help that they may need.

“The goal is to make people feel welcome and cared for, giving them dignity and the feeling that they are not going through this alone.”

All donations collected will be delivered to Trinity Methodist Church Foodbank in Spennymoor, where they will be distributed to individuals and families facing food insecurity during the festive period.
