Moors Ladies embark on their longest away trip of the season on Sunday when they travel to take on Hull United in NERWRL Premier Division (2pm kick-off).
Brent Smithson’s side will be keen to get back on track when they make the journey to Humberside after back-to-back home defeats to Chester-le-Street Town in league and cup over recent weekends.
Moors currently lie seventh in the table but have at least two games in hand on everyone else in the division having fallen behind due to their run in the Women’s FA Cup.
Now their focus returns to the league and they will be determined to register three points against a Hull side who lie second bottom ahead of kick-off this weekend.
Last term, Moors enjoyed a Premier Division double over Hull, but Smithson is wary of taking anything for granted when the sides square up again on Sunday.
“It’s our longest trip and we know that Hull play their best football at home,” the Moors boss told us.
“They held South Shields to a draw at Haworth Park recently, so we know what to expect and I will be telling the girls that we can’t take anything for granted.
“We have played some really good football in patches this season and now I am challenging the players to be more consistent and make sure our performances stay at the levels we demand for longer periods of the game.”
Lucy McIntosh is out until the New Year with a dislocated ankle, while Autumn Colledge (knee) is also unlikely to play again until 2025. Brooke Newton is missing for at least a fortnight with a groin problem, though Lily Jackson returns to the fold, and it is hoped that Jess Dawson and Holly Doogan will shake off knocks to be in contention. Smithson will also be without Coral Colledge, Alex Saunders and Aimee Steele who are all unavailable on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Moors’ stalwart Hannah Knox is set to make her 100th appearance for the Club in this weekend’s trip to Hull.
“It’s an absolutely fantastic achievement for Hannah,” said Smithson.
“She works incredibly hard and gives everything for the cause every single time she pulls on the Spennymoor shirt, so we’re all thrilled for her to reach this milestone.”
Fans are welcome to cheer the team on during Sunday’s fixture which takes place at Haworth Park in Hull and kicks-off at 2pm.
