Moors were held to their fourth National League North draw in succession as Buxton came from behind to snatch a share of the spoils at The Brewery Field on Saturday.
Graeme Lee’s men started the game aggressively and gave themselves a great platform for victory when Michael Ledger scored his first goal for the Club on 14 minutes.
However, The Bucks responded positively, and Luke Brennan had them level six minutes later and neither side could find another route to goal after that.
Lee’s men had deserved their lead after producing some good football in the opening stages, but it was a set-piece which unlocked their visitors’ defence. Olly Dyson’s deep corner from the left was headed back across by Aidan Rutledge and Ledger was in the right place to divert it home from close range.
Isaac Fletcher could even have made it 2-0 shortly afterwards when Ledger’s big up and under sent Moors’ top scorer into space on the left of the box, but his low effort was superbly tipped round the post by Bucks keeper True Grant.
Moors couldn’t maintain their intensity though, and that allowed Buxton to level things with their first attack of note. They put together a neat passing move down the right to free Liam Ravenhill to the byline and he stood up a cross to the far post which was forced in by Brennan.
Rob Ramshaw was agonisingly close to restoring Moors lead just before half time when Fletcher nudged the ball into his path 20 yards out, but the midfield ace drilled his shot just wide.
Grant had to be at his best to deny Moors at the start of the second half when Rutledge’s looping headed looked set to hit the net only for the Buxton keeper to produce a moment of real agility to claw it away.
Lee attempted to inject further impetus into Moors’ attacking play by intruding both Tom Allan and Glen Taylor – now free from injury – but the second half contained few clear cut chances for either side.
One-time Moors loan man Josh Popoola had a chance to win it for Buxton late on but blazed over, while Ramshaw could have stolen all three points in injury-time but his vicious drive picked up a deflection and flashed wide.
