Preview: Scarborough Athletic v Moors

We turn the spotlight on our opening game of 2025 as Moors make the National League North trip to face Scarborough Athletic on New Year’s Day.

Scarborough Athletic v Spennymoor Town
National League North
Wednesday 1st January 2025, 3pm
The Flamingo Land Stadium

The Opposition
Scarborough Athletic have dropped to 15th in National League North after taking just one point from the last three games, including a 4-3 defeat at Darlington on Boxing Day.

However, Jonathan Greening’s men know that a victory on New Year’s Day would be enough to see them leapfrog Moors in the table.

The Seadogs were out of the traps quickly at the start of the campaign when they won three of their first four outings, including an eye-catching away victory at Chorley.

However, they won just four times since then and – like Moors – have drawn games too frequently to maintain a push for the play-off places and will be hoping to rectify that in 2025.

Previous Meeting
Both games last term ended in 1-1 draws as the points were shared at The Brewery Field in January before the same result ensued at The Flamingo Land Stadium in April.

Indeed, should the game on New Year’s Day finish all-square it would be a remarkable fifth successive draw between the sides after they also drew twice in 2022/23.

Match Officials
Jack Hall will be the man in the middle on New Year’s Day at The Flamingo Land Stadium, and he will be assisted by Steven Taylor and Thomas James. Umar Ahmed is the Fourth Official.

Tickets
The New Year’s Day game is segregated, and Moors fans are encouraged to buy tickets online in advance, if possible, while cash payments are preferred if paying on the turnstiles.
