Graeme Lee has completed his first piece of New Year transfer business with the capture of experienced midfielder Mitch Hancox on a permanent deal.
The 31-year-old has penned a contract at The Brewery Field following his departure from fellow National League North outfit side Chester.
Born in Solihull, Hancox came through the ranks at Birmingham City where he went on to sign professional terms and make his senior debut for the club in October 2012.
The versatile midfield man made 40 appearances for The Blues and also gained senior experience from a loan stay at Crawley Town before making a switch to Macclesfield Town in 2016.
Hancox went on to play a key role as The Silkmen won the National League title in 2017/18 and his performances earned him a move to MK Dons that summer.
Hometown club Solihull Moors came calling ahead of the 2019/20 campaign but his spell there was interrupted by injury and the COVID-19 pandemic before he moved on to Hereford in the summer of 2021.
A loan to York City proved a real success and Hancox again tasted promotion glory as he helped The Minstermen clinch a 2-0 victory in the National League North Play-Off Final in 2022.
Following that success, his loan move to York was turned permanent and he became a regular in the side during their return to the fifth tier before being allowed to join Hartlepool United on loan for a spell at the start of 2024.
Stints in the colours of Altrincham and Chester followed but Moors boss Lee made his move quickly to sign the north-east based schemer when he was released from The Deva Stadium this week.
“We’re delighted to bring Mitch into the Club,” admitted Lee.
“He’s got vast experience of winning promotion from this level and above, has excellent technical ability, a great attitude and I know he can be a real asset for us.
“We didn’t waste any time when we heard he had become available and he will bring us more options in midfield at the start of what is a hectic period of the season.”
Hancox has been handed squad number 18 and will now go into contention to make his Moors debut when we host Rushall Olympic at The Brewery Field next weekend.
