Moors Ladies are set for a return to action on Sunday when they make the trip to face Chester-le-Street Town in the NERWFL Premier Division (2pm kick-off).
Brent Smithson’s side had been due to host Bradford City this weekend but The Bantams’ continued run in the County Cup meant for a change of plans.
As a result, Moors must now travel to face Chester-le-Street, who sit top of the table by a point despite having played only eight games in the league so far this season.
The Cestrians have won seven of those fixtures, including a 3-1 triumph at The Brewery Field in November which was followed up by a 5-1 win over Moors in the County Cup seven days later.
Smithson knows there is a big challenge looming for his players on Sunday but is confident that their enthusiasm for a return to action after a month without a game can serve them well.
“We know that Chester-le-Street Town are a good side,” he told us.
“They are top of the league for a reason and were worthy winners on both occasions they visited us earlier in the season.
“However, we’ve continued to work hard and we’ve seen real improvement – the 4-0 win over York in our last game has certainly boosted confidence in the group too.
“It’s been quite a while since then and I can see from training that the girls are desperate to get back out on the pitch, so what a game to go back into.
“We want to really kick-on during 2025 and see if we can finish this season strongly, so we want to go there on Sunday and show them we are a good side too.”
The game takes place at Chester-le-Street Town’s Moors Park and fans are welcome to go along and watch the action. Kick-off is 2pm.
