Preview: Moors v Boston United

We turn the spotlight on to the weekend action with a comprehensive preview of our big FA Trophy tie against Boston United at The Brewery Field.

Spennymoor Town v Boston United
FA Trophy Fifth Round
Saturday 1st February 2025, 3pm
The Brewery Field

The Opposition
Boston United currently lie in 23rd position in the National League having found the going tough at the higher level following their glorious promotion through the play-offs last term.

Their early season struggles led to the departure of promotion-winning boss Ian Culverhouse in October, and Graham Coughlan arrived to succeed him the following month.

The Pilgrims boosted their hopes of survival last time out when they recorded a brilliant 3-1 win over title-chasing York City at Jakeman’s Community Stadium.

However, they were unable to build momentum on the back of that when their scheduled midweek trip to Rochdale was postponed an hour and half before kick-off.

Saturday will be the 12th competitive meeting between the clubs and Boston must find a way to earn their first-ever win over Moors if they are to progress in the FA Trophy.

Previous Meeting
Moors were 2-1 winners when the two sides last met when Graeme Lee’s men enjoyed a 2-1 triumph at Jakeman’s Community Stadium back in March 2024.

It was a memorable afternoon for Moors as Corey McKeown scored a screamer and then Brad James took centre stage by saving two second half penalties.

Match Officials
Garreth Rhodes will take charge of Saturday’s FA Trophy tie at The Brewery Field, and he will be assisted by Adam Nichol and Matthew Sowerby. Kavan Hurn is our Fourth Official.

Competition Rules
