Question & Answer: Michael Ledger

We thought it was about time we got to know Moors star Michael Ledger a little better so we despatched our young reporter Noah Betts to grill the defender on all manner of subjects…

Favourite goal that you’ve scored?
My favourite goal? Probably one I scored in Scotland. I played against Raith Rovers; it was a really nice finish so that’s probably my favourite.

Which ground have you enjoyed playing at the most?
I’d probably say the Stadium of Light when I used to play there. Coming through at Sunderland, we used to always play the Reserve games there and I was on the bench a few times. They’re the team I support and it’s a nice stadium.

Who was your footballing idol growing up?
I always liked Steven Gerrard as I used to play centre mid when I was younger. I enjoyed just watching him and the way he used to run the game. So yeah, I’d have to say Gerrard.

Favourite thing to do with your free time?
At the minute all of my time is taken up! I’ve just had a child and he’s 9 months old so everything’s busy at the moment. I used to like fishing when I was younger, my dad would take me all the time. In the summer I try to get out and relax, mainly going on holiday and things like that.

Best footballing memory?
It would probably have to be making my debut out in Norway. I was quite young at the time, and we played the game at Norway’s national stadium. It was just a really proud achievement really, to play my first game in senior football. It’s something that I look back on often.

Favourite film?
My favourite film? The Shawshank Redemption. It’s one of those films that you can watch over and over again and just an overall good film.

Best moment while playing for Moors so far?
With Spenny? I’m not sure, but probably the run we went on in the first year that I joined the Club. We went from being mid-table to getting into a bit of a relegation fight, then we just went on a mad run and only just missed out on the play-offs on goal difference. Literally with two minutes to go we were in the play-offs, I remember the crowd got up and it was a brilliant feeling, but then obviously results didn’t go our way. It’s still something I look back on now and something I was proud to be involved in.

Favourite teammate?
There’s a few, but I’d probably say Corey McKeown. He’s someone that joined the Club around the same time as me and I sit next to him in the changing rooms and stuff so yeah, I’d say Corey.

Best player you’ve played with?
Best player would have to be Jermain Defoe when I was at Sunderland. I used to have to mark him in training and he was hard work, you thought you had him and then the next minute he’d score! He was always helpful with the young players, and he’d always try and help us out, he was brilliant.

Favourite band?
Oasis. I’m a big Oasis fan; I never thought they would come back together. I managed to get tickets to go and see them so I’m looking forward to that!
