Legendary front man Glen Taylor stole the show at Edgar Street as Moors took home all three points with a richly deserved victory over Hereford
A sneaky freekick from Olly Dyson found the back of the net on 16 minutes, before Taylor spun superbly and finished beneath the home keeper to grab his 200th Spennymoor goal.
Moors kicked the game off, coming forward with real intent, winning two early corners, coming to no avail.
Hereford looked to forge an early lead, however, through Jayden White. His shot from the edge of the penalty area caused Brad James no trouble, routinely claiming down at his feet.
Graeme Lee’s men continued to push toward The Bulls’ goal, coming close on eight minutes. Rob Ramshaw did well to evade a Hereford man and drive past him into the penalty area. The midfielder lofted a ball to the back post for Taylor, whose header was driven low toward goal only for keeper Theo Richardon to make a fine save.
Just eight minutes later, Moors broke the deadlock. Ramshaw did well on the far side and won a freekick to the right of the goalmouth. There was deliberation between Dyson and Matty Dolan about what to do with the set piece. However, it was the fullback who struck it, completely bamboozling everyone in the area and smashing his shot straight past Richardson into The Bulls’ net.
The hosts simply couldn’t get a foothold in the game as Moors looked to add to their tally. Another freekick entered the box, this time from Dolan, whose ball in found Dan Rowe. The defender just couldn’t get a clean enough strike on it, and the ball was claimed by Richardson.
It got even worse for Paul Caddis’ side as they became the victim of Taylor’s 200th Spennymoor Town goal. The front man found space on the edge of the box after receiving the ball, turning his man skilfully and powering a shot beneath the Bulls’ goalkeeper to reach the unbelievable, double-century milestone.
Moors finished the second half with a real missed opportunity, as Junior Mondal saw his curling effort fly high over the bar after he received the ball from Corey McKeown on the edge.
A dominant first half the Lee’s side who would have been pleased to be in such command after the long 6-hour bus journey. Hereford boss Caddis, on the other hand, was not as pleased, and made four substitutions to begin the second half.
However, those alterations didn’t have much of an immediate effect, as Moors picked up where they left off. Dolan swept a corner into the front post for Ramshaw, who tried to flick a shot goalwards, only to hit the side netting. A positive start to the second half.
Hereford had to try and get themselves up and running as quick as possible, so that Moors wouldn’t run away with it, and so they looked to build momentum.
The Bulls began pushing forward, looking quite dangerous. They produced their best chance of the game so far on the 60th minute through Yusifu Ceesay. A smart run from the wide man saw him hang a cross into the centre of the box, finding the head of Andy Williams, who just couldn’t keep his effort down and saw it soar over the crossbar.
Moors looked to get back on top of their game through Ramshaw, who dispatched a shot goalward, only for it to be well saved by Richardson.
Similar events happened just a minute later, as Taylor looked to make it 201 from range, but he was once again denied by Theo Richardson, who, despite the scoreline, had played very well across both halves.
The hosts had a golden opportunity go begging on the 72nd as Ceesay again darted down the left-hand side, this time choosing to square the ball to substitute Jason Cowley, who blazed his shot miles high of the crossbar. A real let off for Moors, as that could’ve easily made the game 1-2.
Despite Hereford’s best efforts, Moors just kept on having chance after chance. Ramshaw tried his luck again from the edge of the area, which was yet again saved by Richardson in The Bulls’ net.
James was called into action late on as a cross almost looped over the shot stopper’s head, but he was alert to the situation and claimed high above his head.
The last real chance of the game went the way of Moors, who looked to end the game on an even more positive note for the travelling supporters. Mondal worked his way into a good position on the edge of the area, before curling an effort into a defender, which looped up into the air and would’ve dropped into the net had Richardson not been ready for it to come back down.
Moors rounded off the game in a professional manner, stomping out any chance of even a consolation for the hosts and securing a brilliant win for the lads.
A great three points a long away from home, continuing Moors winning run to three on the bounce. Focus now shifts to Tuesday night’s fast approaching match against Radcliffe back at The Brewery Field.
