Ladies In Action At Whitworth Park On Sunday

Moors Ladies will aim to continue their encouraging form when they play host to Wallsend Boys Club Women at Whitworth Park Academy on Sunday (2pm kick-off).

Brent Smithson’s sixth-placed side backed up their superb 3-1 win over Alnwick Town with a creditable draw at title-chasing Chester-le-Street Town last time out.

Now they go head-to-head with a talented Wallsend side who sit just one place and three points behind them in the NERWFL Premier Division table.

After losing last weekend’s scheduled fixture against Sunderland West End to the weather, Moors boss Smithson is keen to get back to action on Sunday.

“It’s great to be back playing this weekend; we were really disappointed not to get a game last Sunday,” he explained.

“We have to try and continue building on the encouraging performances we’ve put in during our last two matches – those displays have got to act as our benchmark.

“Wallsend are always tough opposition who offer another challenge for our players; they’re a well organised team with good individuals so we’re ready for that.

“We’ve got some issues with players missing for Sunday but we still have a strong squad that has shown determination, resilience and togetherness all through this season.

“I fully expect them to go out on Sunday and put in another solid performance because our target is to become more consistent between now and the end of the campaign.”

Smithson may have to shuffle his pack for the weekend encounter at Whitworth as several members of his squad are either injured or unavailable for selection.

Lucy McIntosh and Katy Hemmingway both remain in the treatment room and won’t feature, while Alex Saunders, Coral Colledge and recent signing Mae Rackstraw are all missing too.

Fans are welcome to go along and cheer the lasses on at Whitworth Park Academy on Sunday. Kick-off is at 2pm.
