Moors’ four-game winning streak came to an end on Saturday afternoon as Graeme Lee’s men fell to defeat against play-off chasing Chorley at Victory Park.
Goals from Kole Hall, George Horbury, Kristi Montgomery and Mo Touray proved the difference on the day as the home side cruised to victory
The hosts started the game with early intent, forcing Brad James into action with just three minutes when he had to thump clear to prevent Tom Carr from capitalising on a loose ball.
Adam Blakeman tried to put Chorley into an early lead through a set piece. However, his low effort drilled beneath the wall was well saved by James.
It was centre back, Scott Wilson who went close to finding the opener just 18 minutes in, finding space in the penalty area, but his free header was directed straight into the arms of James.
The Magpies saw a golden opportunity go begging on the 22nd minute as Carr’s well timed, low ball into the centre of the area rolled agonisingly past Kole Hall, who was at full stretch, but couldn’t prod home.
Andy Preece’s men finally broke the deadlock just after the half hour mark. A penalty was awarded but James guessed right and parried Hall’s spot-kick only for the ball to drop back to the Magpies front man who bundled it home despite the keeper’s best efforts.
Moors really hadn’t had much to shout about in terms of attacking threat, with Chorley having firm control of the fixture since the off. As a result, Moors went into the break trailing.
Things didn’t get much better after the break for Graeme Lee’s side, as Chorley found their second just four minutes into the second half.
A curled effort from Joe Nolan inside the penalty area was brilliantly palmed away by James. However, George Horbury was there to thump an effort into the roof of the net from the rebound.
Moors had to be alert to stop a third from hitting the net six minutes later, as Adam Henley’s cut back found Hall in the area. His shot had to be deflected wide of the right post by a defender.
Olly Dyson looked to level the scores on the hour mark as he was laid off in the area by substitute Aidan Rutledge. The right back’s effort, however, was deflected wide.
Fin Shrimpton tried his luck from range, but to no avail, as his 25-yard low effort went wide of the mark, before Glen Taylor saw his flicked effort loop the wrong side of the upright.
Moors almost grabbed a goal back on the 74th minute, as substitute Will Harris saw his strike rattle the crossbar, before bouncing out to Shrimpton in the area, whose half volley was well saved by Matty Urwin in The Magpies net.
Chorley got their third of the afternoon as substitute Kristi Montgomery unleashed a thunderous effort over James, and into the back of the net to kill of the game.
It was four for the hosts just two minutes later as Mo Touray headed home from close range with his first touch of the game. The substitute got on the end of an inviting cross and made no mistake with a diving header.
