The Club is excited to announce their continued partnership with New College Durham to offer an outstanding opportunity for school leavers to take the next step in both their sporting and academic journeys.
With New College Durham set to officially unveil a brand new 4G pitch, the Club’s extended collaboration will provide a fantastic platform for young players across the region to access high-level coaching, education and facilities all in one place.
Our 16–19 Football Programme will continue to be delivered on-site at the college, combining daily training, academic qualifications and personal development, all supported by Spennymoor Town FC’s coaching team.
Moors boss Graeme Lee paid a visit to New College Durham on Thursday to celebrate the continuing partnership, and he is looking forward to seeing youngsters from across County Durham benefit from the Programme.
“Having been involved in both development and First Team football, it’s exciting to see the progress being made by the Club in partnership with New College Durham,” Lee told us.
“It’s certainly going to open up more opportunities for me within my role, especially with the link between the College, the Under-18s, and Spennymoor Youth.
“I recently watched the County Cup Final and was impressed by the quality of the young players who were technically strong and hungry footballers.
“This is a big year for Spennymoor Town, and the new facility here marks a crucial next step, so I’m really looking forward to being involved even more as we head into the 2025/26 season.”
To support Year 11 students exploring their post-school options, the Club is delivering a dedicated football session for school leavers during the May half term, as well as recruitment events directly at the college.
The session will take place on Tuesday 27th May from 11am to 1pm and will offer a great chance to meet the team, see the facilities, and learn more about the programme to find out if it’s the right fit for you.
“It was great to show Graeme Lee around the facility today,” enthused Moors’ Head of Community and Football Development, Gavin Cogdon.
“Over the last few months, it’s been brilliant to sit down with Graeme, Jason Ainsley, and key people at the Club to talk about the pathway and future opportunities at Spennymoor Town.
“As we move into Year 3 of the programme, the excitement continues to build, and I want to thank all the students who’ve been part of the journey so far. They’ve played a huge role in helping us reach this stage.
“I’m confident we’ll see more of our college players stepping up in training and, hopefully, representing the Club on the pitch this season and beyond.”
