New To The Division: AFC Telford United

We continue our summer study of the new clubs joining us in National League North for 2025/26 and today we’re making a journey to Shropshire.

How did they get here?
AFC Telford United clinched their return to National League North at the beginning of May as they twice came from behind to beat Kettering Town in the Southern League Premier Play-Off Final.

The Bucks looked up against it when trailing 1-0 at the break and were also 2-1 down before levelling it up and then going on to take control in the closing 10 minutes to run out 4-2 winners.

Kevin Wilkin’s side had finished third during the regular season to clinch their place in the play-offs and their promotion ended a two-season stay outside of the sixth tier.

Where do they play?
The SEAH Stadium is home to AFC Telford United and is widely regarded as one of the best stadiums in non-league football with an EFL ‘A’ Grading.

Construction began on their stadium in 2000 and was completed in 2003, and it now boasts a maximum capacity of 5,500.

Who is in charge?
Kevin Wilkin will enter into his fourth season in charge at AFC Telford United when he leads them back into National League North during 2025/26.

He was appointed to the role in October 2022 after spending seven seasons as boss of Brackley Town where he had enjoyed two play-off campaigns and won the FA Trophy in 2018.

Born in Cambridge, Wilkin began his playing career with Cambridge City but went on to star for Northampton Town, Rushden & Diamonds and Nuneaton Borough before returning to his home city.

He moved into management with Nuneaton in 2006, earning the job on a permanent basis after taking over temporarily at first and he was also named as boss when the club reformed the following year.

He moved on to National League rivals Wrexham in 2014 and he guided the Club to an FA Trophy Final at Wembley in which they were beaten on penalties by North Ferriby United.

When did we last meet?
Both games finished 1-1 when Moors met AFC Telford United during the 2022/23 campaign when the two sides shared National League North.

Mark Anderson equalised to secure a point in the home game in August 2022 before Glen Taylor levelled things up in the return fixture the following January.
