Durrant Appointed As Moors Ladies Manager

The Club is delighted to confirm the appointment of Stephen Durrant as the new Ladies First Team Manager.

The experienced coach has extensive knowledge of the women’s game across the region having previously been in charge at Chester-le-Street Town and Alnwick Town.

A UEFA ‘C’ Licensed coach, Durrant has over 20 years of football experience and has most recently been working as Head Coach of the Men’s Team at Northumbria University while also helping Blyth Spartans to set up their women’s section.

Durrant will now begin work to prepare the Moors Ladies squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, after succeeding Brent Smithson who chose to stand down from the role at the end of last term.

“I am really looking forward to it,” Durrant told us.

The infrastructure and the set-up at this club is brilliant and the women’s section has been doing really well in recent years.

“We’re seeing the evolution of the women’s game start to catch up with the men and we now see girls at 5 and 6 kicking a ball around and getting interested in football.

“Spennymoor Town is at the heart of its community and has tapped into the need to create a pathway to have that pipeline of young talent to come through and play for the town.

“I’ve been looking for a long-term project and I am excited to try and build on all the brilliant work that has been done here by the previous management.”
