The Club is delighted to have enhanced its relationship with Bede College to create another exciting pathway for the next generation of young footballers.
Moors have utilised the excellent facilities at Bede College as their training base in recent seasons and now the relationship between the two organisations has grown further.
It means that young Academy players studying at Bede College will now get the opportunity to compete in the National Football Youth League and have a clear pathway which could lead all the way to the First Team.
Moors star Ben Beals is to take on a coaching role within the new set-up to bring the very best out of the up-and-coming stars who enrol with the College programme.
“This shows the development of this Football Club and how far we have come that we are now at a level to help the youth come through,” said Moors boss Graeme Lee.
“Over the longer term, this could be the model for us to even produce First Team players of the future for Spennymoor Town.
“Ben will lead the coaching side but if I hear good things then I will want to come and see for myself. If a player is good enough, then age doesn’t matter.”
Based within the college’s Institute for Sport and Education (ISE), the squad at Bede will benefit from regular coaching and will also gain experience from coming up against youth academies attached to some of the country’s biggest clubs.
As well as football training, the programme will also give youngsters access to specialist strength and conditioning, nutrition advice and performance analysis as part a timetable to run alongside their academic education.
“We are really excited to be partnering with Spennymoor Town,” explained Oliver Hodgson, Bede Institution of Sport and Education lead
“This will significantly enhance our men’s football academy and take us to the next level.
“To compete in the NFYL will be a real challenge and will push the team’s performance but to develop as a footballer you need to embrace those pressures if you want to reach the next level.”
The college and Moors are holding an academy trial day at Bede Sports Centre on Marsh House Avenue in Billingham on Monday 23rd June between 12noon and 4pm.
The trial day is aimed at those currently performing at TJFA/RYFL Division 1 (or equivalent capability), county or district school level or former academy scholars. Places are expected to be limited.
