Firsts And Lasts: Dan Rowe

We get down to the important issues with Moors defender Dan Rowe as he faces the questions from the index of our popular Firsts and Lasts feature.

Firsts

What was the name of your first pet?

It was a dog called Charlie, a cairn terrier I think it was. To be honest, it was a horrible little thing that wasn’t trained! Haha!

What was your first car?
I used to borrow my mam’s Ford Fiesta. It was alright you know, I loved it. I passed my test but didn’t get a car for a year so and kept on getting the bus everywhere for a while when I was in Rotherham playing. I borrowed my mam’s car, and it was great, very reliable!

What was your first holiday abroad?
One of my earliest memories is of going to Disneyland in Paria. I was only three or four at the time, so I think it was that. We also went to Tenerife quite a lot as a family.

What was the first gig you went to see?
The Kooks in Hartlepool. For some reason, they came to the Headland, and I remember that was my first underage pint, obtained with a fake ID! Haha. They were a big band to come to Hartlepool.

What was the first match you went to see?
It was a Middlesbrough game, but I can’t remember much about it. I remember coming up the stairs and seeing the pitch and the floodlights for the first time. It’s one of my earliest football memories and why I feel in love with it.

Who was your first best friend?
A lad called Ryan Chan from nursery. I still speak to him now, he’s a good friend.

Who is the first person in your phone book?
Haha, it’s quite big time this – but it’s Adebayo Akinfenwa! I was at Wycombe Wanderers for a spell and obviously his name is at the top of my contacts alphabetically.

When was the first time you realised you might turn pro?
I was always pretty good when I was young, but I didn’t think I was ready. When I was 16 I got a scholarship and that was probably the moment when I thought I had the chance.

What was your first match as a pro footballer?
It was for Rotherham in a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy game against York City. I think I came on for the last ten minutes. I was more nervous when I made my first start for Wycombe though.

Who was your first football manager?
My dad! He was the Billingham Town manager back in the day of the TGFA Under-6s. He was there for 10 or 12 years and was brilliant.

What was the first mobile phone you owned?
I think it was a Motorola Pebble! Remember them? It was like a pebble, but you push it down and it flipped up – it was class!

Lasts

What is the last thing you watched on TV?
I watched some of the Olympics last night. I think you have to take the opportunity to watch that when it comes around. I was watching the swimming last night, which was good.

What was the last thing that made you laugh?
Haha, probably when you just told me the story about my mate Brad Walker who thought the luggage you took abroad went on a different plane to the one you were one! Haha!

What was the last thing you bought?
The last big purchase I made was my new driver for playing golf. It’s a Taylor Made one so I have spoilt myself a bit but I love it.

What is the last thing you took a photo of?
It will have been in London I think, I went down there for a bit just before the season started. I got a picture with my daughter outside Big Ben!

What is the last thing you ate?
A chocolate bar! Dairy Milk to be precise! It was just a little snack before training – I don’t tend to eat that much beforehand and will have my tea afterwards.

What is the last thing you drank?
Bottle of water! Just in the car on the way to training.

Who is the last person you spoke to on the phone?
My mam. I was speaking to her in the car on the way to training just then. We were chatting about Sunday because she’s having a barbecue so we’re going round for that.

What was the last football match you went to (where you weren’t playing)?
It will have been last season. I think it was Boro v Millwall now I am thinking about it. We didn’t have a game at Whitby, so I went to watch and Boro won 1-0.

What was the last film you watched?
Man On Fire. I was speaking to Rob the physio about it and he recommended it. I had never even heard of it but I went away and watched it and it’s very good, isn’t it?

Who was the last person to text you?
I think it was Ian Clark! He was in touch about the GPS things that we were and about the data that comes off them. We need to work harder basically! Ha!
