Moors Stars To Play In Charity Cricket Match

Moors stars Matty Dolan, Dan Rowe and Glen Taylor plus management team Graeme Lee and Ian Clark are all set to take part in a charity cricket match in Peterlee on Sunday 6th July.

Boss Lee will captain one of the sides, while Clark, Dolan, Rowe and Taylor will all take to the crease as part of a fundraiser for The Roy Simpson MBE Foundation.

They will be joining an array of well-known names from North East football, including former Moors players Gary Liddle and Craig Hignett plus former boss Tommy Miller.

Moors Secretary and Media & Communications Manager Mark Simpson set up the Foundation earlier this year following the death of his father, Roy last September after a battle with dementia.

Roy had been awarded an MBE for his services to education, the community and his beloved cricket in 2015 and his passion for youth development is something that Mark and his two sisters wanted to keep alive with the formation of the Foundation.

“It would be superb to see a few Moors fans over in Peterlee to cheer us on,” said Lee.

“I’m not sure how good some of us will be at cricket but we’re going to have a lot of fun finding out and it’s all to raise money for a really worthy cause so we’re looking forward to it.

“Hopefully there will be some familiar faces from The Brewery Field on the boundary at Peterlee to give us some backing on what we hope will be a memorable day.”

The cricket match is set to be a 20-over contest from 2pm on Sunday 6th July, played at Peterlee Cricket Club where Roy had been a stalwart, serving as a player, coach, Secretary and Chairman among other roles.

Entry will be just £3 for adults and free for under 16s (cash or card payments will be accepted) with all proceeds going directly to The Roy Simpson MBE Foundation.
