It’s the gaffer’s turn to take to the hotseat as we fire our random questions at him in a bid to find out more about the man behind Moors.
Favourite crisps?
I like Tesco’s onion rings. I like to put crisps in my sandwiches, and I am a big fan of the Flamin’ Hot Giant Wotsits too. They can be a challenge for sandwiches though, and the flavour has to match the filling.
Favourite drink?
I am a shandy man. I love a lager shandy – it’s such a refreshing drink.
Favourite sandwich?
I have so many. If I am buying one, I got to The Italian job near mine and get a chicken tikka hot baguette, with all the salad and coleslaw – plus a packet of crisps to put in it obviously. At home, either seafood sandwich filler or ham and cheese with coleslaw and crisps.
Favourite pizza?
I have to admit, I like a donner pizza with a bit of salad, plus garlic and chilli sauce. You just pile it all on top of the pizza – that’s unbelievable, that. The salad gives it a real crunch too.
Favourite footballer?
I have a few but the one I liked watching most was John Terry. I always used to look up to him and I would show good examples of his defending to the young lads I coached at Middlesbrough. It’s not just how he played, but also the commitment he showed.
Favourite match?
It was probably when I scored the winner for Doncaster Rovers in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final at The Millennium Stadium. It was in the last minute of extra time. It was weird; I remember celebrating and Paul Heffernan came over and said I should try to stop for a second and soak it all in. I felt like it was in slow motion but when you watch back it’s a flash of a second. Being captain and lifting the Trophy was amazing.
Favourite song?
I would probably go for Your Song by Elton John. I felt like that was my lucky song on a matchday and it’s still on my playlist now. It was also my wedding song – I should have said that first, shouldn’t I? Haha!
Favourite band?
I went to watch Kings of Leon in Manchester, and they were very good. It felt like a proper rock concert because there was a fight right next to me too! I also saw Snow Patrol in Nottingham, and they were brilliant, they had real stage presence.
Favourite stadium?
What really sticks out for me when I was I was a player is QPR’s ground. I know it’s not the best stadium I’ve played at, but the atmosphere always seemed to be brilliant and the fans there are right on top of you. They were intense but I enjoyed that, so it was a good thing for me.
Favourite film?
I really like The Matrix movies. I have watched them more than a few times. I liked The Hangover series of films as well.
Favourite TV series?
Friends. I love watching it even now and always end up putting it on. If I flick around, then Friends is always what stays on and you watch it. I would say Joey is my favourite character.
Favourite teammate?
Haha, Ian Clark. I roomed with Clarky when we played together and I room with again now whenever we stop over for games now. He’s okay but he’s developed a habit of snoring now, so I always try to get my own room whenever I can! Haha!
