Graeme Lee has substantially strengthened his squad ahead of the new campaign after completing the signing of Mackenzie Heaney from South Shields for an undisclosed fee.
The talented attacking midfield star has spent the last three seasons with The Mariners during which time he has become a favourite with fans at The 1st Cloud Arena.
Comfortable in a number of positions but arguably at his most effective in the Number 10 role or off the right wing, Heaney brings real quality and experience to The Brewery Field.
A product of Newcastle United’s Academy, Heaney joined The Magpies when he was just 12 and his ability saw him represent Scotland and then England at youth level.
After breaking into Newcastle’s Under-18s at the tender age of 15, he continued to make good progress and won the Golden Boot at the prestigious Milk Cup youth tournament in 2015.
Following his release from St James’ Park, Heaney gained senior experience with spells at Newcastle Benfield, West Auckland and Whitby Town before moving abroad to star for Icelandic outfit UMF Grindavik.
A successful trial with York City earned him a deal with The Minstermen in 2021 and he then spent time on loan with Buxton, helping them to secure the Northern Premier League title.
His goal threat, creativity, work rate and versatility helped make him a regular with Shields and he signed a new contract last summer, but Moors have now swooped to bring the 26-year-old to The Brewery Field.
“He’s a fit, technically excellent player who has played at this level and higher so he’s a fantastic addition for us,” said Moors boss Lee.
“I am really excited we’ve been able to bring him to the Club – when we had an inkling that we could get him I was very happy and then it was just a case of pushing to get the deal done.
“I demand from all the players but particularly from the forward and the wide players because when they cover ground we win games – so the players we’ve brought in have that athleticism but also the quality too.”
Heaney, whose move is subject to clearance from The Football Association, is set to take up squad number 7 at The Brewery Field.
