Gary Madine Signs For Spennymoor Town

Moors have added vast experience and huge physical presence to their forward line after agreeing a deal to sign front man Gary Madine.

The Gateshead-born striker boasts over 100 goals in just under 500 appearances in the EFL and will provide boss Graeme Lee with another dimension to his attacking options.

Madine first came to prominence during a potent spell with Carlisle United, initially making his debut at just 17 before going on to fire 22 goals in 83 outings for The Cumbrians.

That form earned him a move to Sheffield Wednesday in January 2011 and he got straight among the goals, top scoring as The Owls won promotion from League One in his first full season.

After a loan spell back at Carlisle and temporary moves to Coventry City and Blackpool, Madine made a permanent switch to Bolton Wanderers in 2015, and he hit the net 26 times in 107 appearances for The Trotters.

His prowess and presence persuaded Cardiff City to pay big money to take him to Wales in January 2018 and he played his part as The Bluebirds earned promotion to the Premier League.

Madine joined Sheffield United on loan the following year and was celebrating another top flight promotion when he helped The Blades finish second in the Championship in 2019/20.

A permanent switch to Blackpool followed and he spent three years at Bloomfield Road before returning to the North East last August to sign for Hartlepool United where he went on to fire 8 goals in 30 appearances.

“Gary brings so much experience and knowhow to the squad, so we’re delighted to have got this deal done,” explained Lee.

“His record shows that he knows where the net is because he’s scored goals at every level he’s played at, and we’re excited to see the impact he can make in the new season.

“As well as that presence and goal threat, Gary is also adept at bringing others into play and I would expect him to create chances for other players around him too.”

The 34-year-old front man has been handed squad number 23 at The Brewery Field and his move to the Club is subject to FA clearance.
