Dan Jones Signs For Spennymoor Town

Graeme Lee has moved to further strengthen his squad with the signing of experienced defender Dan Jones ahead of the star of the 2025/26 campaign.

The Bishop Auckland born 30-year-old brings a wealth of knowhow to the Moors rearguard having spent the majority of his career playing in the EFL.

An athletic and uncompromising defender who is competitive in the air but also comfortable with the ball at his feet, Jones can operate at centre-back or at left-back.

A graduate of Hartlepool United’s Academy, Jones signed professional terms at Victoria Park in 2013 and went to make 41 appearances in all competitions.

He moved on to Grimsby Town in 2016 before spending time on loan at Gateshead and AFC Fylde, prior to a permanent switch to Barrow in 2017 where he became a regular over the next two years, earning a move to Salford City.

After loan stays back at Barrow and with Harrogate Town, Jones penned a deal with Port Vale in 2021, starring in both League One and League Two over the next four years.

Last term, Jones spent time back in Gateshead colours when he played 23 times in the National League whilst on loan at The International Stadium.

“We’re absolutely delighted to bring Dan to the Club,” admitted Moors boss Lee.

“It’s been no secret that we’ve been after someone for that area of the pitch and to be able to bring a player of Dan’s calibre in is a real boost for us.

“He’s got good pedigree, lots of experience at a higher level and is a committed and determined defender so we’re confident he will strengthen us going into the season.

“Overall, I am happy with the recruitment over the summer – we’ve been able to keep the core of our squad, and added some fresh faces, so we’re excited to get going now.”

Jones has been handed squad number 3 and his move to The Brewery Field is subject to the usual clearance from The Football Association.
