Moors Ladies started their season in encouraging fashion on Sunday as they twice came from behind to claim a creditable point at Ponteland United.
It was a tricky start for new boss Stephen Durrant against a Ponteland side who finished fourth in the Premier Division last term, but his players produced a spirited display.
Strong winds always threatened to make good football difficult on the day, as Durrant named four debutants in his starting line-up for Sunday’s game.
New Moors goalkeeper Phillipa Hunter was kept busy in the early stages as the home side got on the front foot from the first whistle.
The domination of possession was turned into a lead midway through the first half when a free kick on the edge of the box was brilliantly whipped into the top corner for 1-0.
It could have been 2-0 almost immediately had Hunter not pulled off an incredible save, while Moors had the woodwork to thank on 33 minutes when the ball cannoned back off the post.
However, Moors stuck to their task and got back on level terms just before the break when Amy Richardson got on the end of a rare foray into Ponteland territory to make it 1-1.
The home side were back in front a minute into the second half, but Moors now had the wind behind them and almost equalised through Kelly Garcia but her shot flashed just too high.
The leveller did arrive on 73 minutes though when this time Garcia did find the back of the net after arriving to meet an excellent delivery from Lucy McIntosh.
