Report: Worksop Town 3 Moors 3

Moors were forced to settle for a point on the road after an eventful evening at Worksop Town on Tuesday.

Goals from Rob Ramshaw, Junior Mondal and Alfie Doherty had Graeme Lee’s men in front three times only for Worksop to answer back each time with a goal from Liam Hughes and a brace from Aaron Martin.

Moors opened the scoring just five minutes in as Ramshaw spotted keeper Tommy Taylor off his line and despatched a perfect lobbed volley from almost 30 yards which found the top corner for 1-0.

The lead didn’t last long, however, as the hosts grabbed their equaliser just three minutes later. Hughes profited from some madness in the penalty area and smashed home from close range to level the scores.

Lee’s men almost hit back immediately as Glen Taylor struck a similar shot to Ramshaw’s opener, but The Tigers keeper did well to save at stretch.

Junior Mondal saw a real chance go begging on the 19th minute but dragged his shot well wide of the mark from inside the penalty area.

However, Moors did regain the lead three minutes later. A great run from Ramshaw saw him drive towards goal, before cutting a ball across to Mondal. The winger made no mistake this time and fired a shot back across and into the back of Taylor’s net.

Worksop weren’t content with going behind, and very nearly pegged Moors back again as they won a penalty less than two minutes after Mondal’s finish. A handball in the area gave Hughes the opportunity to level the scores from the spot, but Brad James guessed right and saved the penalty.

Ramshaw did well to get away down the right on the half hour mark, but his ball into the area floated just over the head of Glen Taylor and into the arms of the Worksop keeper.

With just seconds of first half stoppage time remaining, the hosts did manage to find their equaliser. Brad James saved the original strike, but in doing so, parried the ball into the path of Aaron Martin, who slotted home low and into the back of the net.

Worksop didn’t let up as the game entered the second half. Joe Leesley fancied his chances as he struck a freekick goalward, only for it to end up flying well over the bar.

Alex Starcenko went very close to putting his side ahead on the hour mark as he got on the end of a clipped ball over the top. However, he somehow fired wide from six yards.

In what became an end to end few minutes, Vaughan Redford saw his powerful strike saved by James, before Ramshaw fired wide of Tommy Taylor’s near post.

Moors found themselves in front for a third time as substitute, Alfie Doherty, got his name on the score sheet. A brilliant ball down the line from Olly Dyson found Doherty, who bore down on goal before slotting home his first Moors goal with a tidy finish.

Yet again, the lead didn’t last long. A scramble ensued from a corner as Martin’s flicked header was adjudged to have crossed the line despire the best attempts of Mackenzie Heaney to hook it clear.

Graeme Lee’s men could’ve gone ahead for a fourth time as Matty Dolan stepped up for a free kick, only to see his low effort go just wide of the post.

With just two minutes of normal time remaining, Moors had a real opportunity go begging. Doherty caught Taylor off guard, before firing on goal. His shot was deflected and looped over the Worksop keeper, only to see it cleared off the line.

A final chance came the way of Moors with just seconds of added time remaining. Matty Dolan struck a dangerously positioned freekick on goal which dipped inches wide of the right post.

An exciting game of football as Moors settled for a point away from home, with focus now shifting to Leamington’s visit to The Brewery Field at the weekend.
