Moors Ladies play their first home game of the season on Sunday when they welcome local rivals South Shields to The Brewery Field (2pm kick-off).
After an encouraging 2-2 draw away at fancied Ponteland United on the opening day, Moors will now hope to back that up on home soil this weekend.
It won’t be easy though. Shields finished two points and two places above Moors in the NERWFL Premier Division table last term and completed a league double over them in the process.
Nikita Hemmingway will lead the team on Sunday following the departure of Stephen Durrant earlier this week and she is hoping for a good turnout to cheer the players on.
“The lasses all love playing at The Brewery Field and games against South Shields always have that little extra edge,” she told us.
“They got the better of us in the league games last year, but we’ve strengthened well this summer and will feel confident after the result at Ponteland last Sunday.
“The support we’ve had at home games over the last few years has been amazing and it really does spur the team on so hopefully we can have a good crowd behind us again this weekend.”
Admission is just £3 for adults and completely free for all those under 12 so make sure you head along to The Brewery Field to cheer the lasses on this Sunday.
