Moors Ladies will begin their Women’s FA Cup campaign on Sunday when they make the trip to face Birtley Town at The Arrowmark Stadium (2pm kick-off).
Nikita Hemmingway’s side have enjoyed an encouraging start to the new NERWFL Premier Division season and remain unbeaten after three games.
Now they’ll be keen to take that form into the FA Cup, which has provided some fantastic memories for the Ladies Team in recent seasons.
Hosts Birtley play in the Northern Division – one below Moors – but had an excellent result in their opening league game when they defeated Norton & Stockton Ancients Reserves 2-1 last weekend.
There’ll also be a couple of familiar faces in the opposition squad on Sunday as Moors come up against sisters, Courtney and Olivia Mole who both now represent The Hoops.
“We’re really excited to get started in the FA Cup again,” said Hemmingway.
“There have been some special days for the Ladies Team in this competition over the last few years and I know that the players are determined to create some more.
“It’s a really important game for us because it’s a competition which means a lot to everyone who plays in it so we’ll approach it with real focus.
“Birtley are a good team and we are aware of some of their threats, so it’s a tough draw for us and we’ll have to be at our best if you want to progress.
“But we’ve started the season really well, we’re playing good football and we’re scoring goals, so we’ll go there with plenty of confidence and belief.”
Fans are welcome to enjoy the FA Cup Second Round Qualifying tie at Birtley’s Arrowmark Home Improvements Stadium on Sunday where it is a 2pm kick-off.
