Moors’ New College Durham Academy bounced back from last week’s defeat in style when they thumped Hebburn Town Academy on Wednesday.
Matty Dolan’s youngsters were keen to erase memories of their narrow loss last time out and from the first whistle they were on the front foot against their visitors.
After a bright start to the game, Moors went in front on 12 minutes when Leighton Hope perfectly timed his run in behind and tucked a confident finish past the keeper.
Hope doubled his tally and Moors’ advantage shortly afterwards when he seized on a wayward pass from a Hebburn defender to punish them with a second goal.
The visitors settled into the game as the half developed and had a couple of decent chance themselves before half time, but Moors took their two-goal lead in at the break.
However, Dolan’s men made sure of the points early in the second half when Hope completed his hat-trick when he fired home following a brilliant run and cross from Lennon Knox.
Hebburn pulled a goal back with a good header to make it 3-1 but Moors restored their three-goal advantage almost immediately when Hayden Oakes won possession, jinked into space and fired in from the edge of the area.
Hope was continuing to cause real problems, and he grabbed his fourth goal of the afternoon when he drove past the Hebburn defence to finish and make it 5-1.
And Dylan Jones put the icing on the cake for Moors late on when he embarked on a fantastic solo run and tucked home a goal that his performance had deserved.
“The boys’ work ethic and team spirit was excellent,” said Dolan afterwards.
“It was one of those games when everything just seemed to click for them and you could see how much they enjoyed themselves out there.
“They worked tirelessly in and out of possession and they got their rewards for that.
“Leighton has been working hard on his finishing in training all week, so for him to go out and get four goals is brilliant but there were exceptional performances all over the pitch.
“I was more impressed by the attitude they showed towards the game as a team because it was superb and it bodes well for us moving forward.”
