Preview: Moors v Barrow

We’re turning the focus back onto the FA Cup as we host Barrow at The Brewery Field in the First Round Proper on Saturday afternoon.

Spennymoor Town v Barrow AFC
Emirates FA Cup First Round
Saturday 1st November 2025, 3pm
The Brewery Field

The Opposition
This weekend’s opponents come into the tie off the back of a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest’s Under-21s in the Vertu Trophy in midweek, but it wasn’t enough to help them qualify for the knockout stages.

The Bluebirds have endured an inconsistent start to their League Two campaign, winning just five of their opening 14 games, which subsequently has them sitting in 15th place in the table.

However, they have enjoyed a decent run of form in recent weeks and arrive in County Durham having tasted defeat just once in their last eight outings in all competitions.

Andy Whing’s side come to The Brewery Field looking to book their place in Round Two of the FA Cup for the first time since the 2023/24 season.

Previous Meetings
Moors were scheduled to face off against Barrow in pre-season action in the weeks leading up to the 2021/22 campaign. However, due to extensive injuries in The Bluebirds camp, the fixture was cancelled.

Prior to that, you have to go back to the days of Spennymoor United to find meetings between the clubs – the most recent coming in 2003/04 when the sides shared the Unibond League Premier Division.

The Bluebirds completed a league double of Moors that season, winning 2-0 at Holker Street to follow up a 4-2 success at The Brewery Field.

The first meeting between the clubs came in the FA Cup back in 1953/54 when Barrow ran out 3-0 winners at The Brewery Field.

Referee
Zac Kennard-Kettle will take charge of Saturday’s cup action, and he will be assisted by Joe Simpson and Declan O’Regan. Our Fourth Official will be Jamie Waters.

Tickets
This weekend’s game will be segregated, and Moors fans are once again reminded that this is a ticket-only fixture, meaning that supporters will not be able to purchase tickets on the turnstiles.

Season Ticket holders are reminded that FA Cup ties are not part of their package and that they will need to buy tickets in advance.

Tickets will remain on general sale until 12noon on Saturday.

Competition Rules
Saturday’s tie must be settled on the day, so if it’s level after 90 minutes then extra time will be played and then a penalty shootout if required.

Both sides are able to name 9 substitutes this weekend of which five may be used at any time provided they are used as either (a) the three available opportunities to make substitutions during normal time in the Competition Match (excluding the half time interval), or (b) where extra time is played, the one additional opportunity to make substitutions during that period of extra time (excluding the break between full time and extra time, and the half time interval of extra time).
