Moors progressed to the Third Round of the Durham Challenge Cup as they overcame Tow Law Town at The Brewery Field on Wednesday evening.
Ethan Docherty’s goal was enough to separate the sides as he finished low past Liam McGrath just before the hour mark.
The game started slowly, as neither side could muster up any real chances in the opening 20 minutes.
Dan Atkinson looked to slip a ball in behind towards loan-man, Katia Kouyate, but saw his pass cut out by a Tow Law defender just before it could reach him.
Moors goalkeeper, James Barron, made his first impression on the game when he came out to claim Charlie Berry’s ball into the area just shy of the half hour mark.
Ian Clark’s young side went close when an out-swinging corner found the head of defender, Alfie Augey, but the number 2 couldn’t keep his effort down, as it flew over the bar.
The Lawyers saw a good opportunity saved by Barron, as he got in the way of a close-range effort from Jamie Wilson.
Moors ended the first half the stronger, as Max Brandon almost put his side ahead when he got on the end of a smart ball into the area from Kingston Butler. However, he saw his strike saved from point blank range by McGrath.
Momentum continued into the second half for Moors when Docherty took aim, only to see his effort eventually swept up by McGrath.
Docherty grabbed the game’s only goal on the 57th minute after he found the back of the net from the edge of the area, beating McGrath to give his side the lead.
Moors’ number 9 went close to doubling the advantage 14 minutes later when he looked to round the Tow Law keeper and slot home, only to be denied by a last-ditch save.
The game closed with Moors on the front foot, as Olly Green struck an effort over the bar, before smashing the post with a free kick in the final minute.
