Moors To Pay Remembrance Day Tribute

We’re proud to confirm that 8th Battalion The Rifles will once again join us at The Brewery Field on Saturday as part of our Remembrance Day activity.

Spennymoor Town and Peterborough Sports players, staff and supporters will unite ahead of kick-off in this weekend’s National League North fixture to honour and remember those who served and sacrificed for our country.

As part of our commemorations, the Club is once again pleased to offer FREE entry to Saturday’s game for all service personnel on production of their military identification, while entry will be reduced to £5 for Veterans.

Moors’ Managing Director Ian Geldard and Peterborough Sports Chairman Tim Woodward will be joined by Colour Sergeant Ryan Clarkson in laying wreaths in the centre circle prior to kick-off in the game.

Following this tribute, a member of Spennymoor Town Band will perform The Last Post, which will be combined with a minute’s silence in order for us all to unite in paying our respects.

“It’s a privilege for the Club to once again welcome 8 Rifles to The Brewery Field to further strengthen the partnership we’ve built in recent seasons,” said Geldard.

“We’re proud of the manner in which we’re able to mark Remembrance Day each year and 8 Rifles play a huge role in ensuring that it is a fitting tribute.

“Spennymoor Town Band’s presence will also add something to the occasion, and we’re really pleased to be able to offer all supporters the chance to pay their respects on Saturday.

“As ever, we would request that fans take up their positions slightly earlier than usual to ensure they can take a full part in the tribute before kick-off.”

The Rifles was formed in February 2007 through an amalgamation of Light Infantry and Rifle Regiments, including the Durham Light Infantry, and is the largest infantry regiment in the British Army.

The 8th Battalion is the newest in the British Army Reserve having been formed five years ago, with headquarters in Bishop Auckland and outstations in Durham and Sunderland, as well as in Yorkshire and Shropshire.
