Moors’ New College Durham Academy followed up last week’s excellent win over Hartlepool United with another three points at Hebburn Town on Wednesday.
The youngsters were in great spirits following their triumph over Pools and began the game against Hebburn very positively.
However, the home side grabbed the opening goal against the run of play as a deflection saw the ball fall invitingly for the Hebburn forward who made no mistake.
Matty Dolan’s side responded well though and quickly got back on the front foot to probe for a leveller, only to come against a resolute Hebburn defence.
They began the second half in determined fashion with the industrious Hayden Oakes proving a danger to the host’s defence and Moors’ perseverance paid off when a wayward back pass found its way past the keeper for 1-1.
Moors then got right on top of the game and got their noses in front for the first time when Brandon Neely powerfully met a corner to leave the home side’s keeper with no chance.
There were opportunities for Dolan’s youngsters to have made the win safe during the latter stages, but they couldn’t quite convert and had to be satisfied with a 2-1 victory.
“It was great to see the lads enjoying the football so much,” said Dolan afterwards.
“Particularly in the second half you could sense that they were having a good time out there but also demanding high standards from each other.
“They more than deserved their win and it was pleasing to see the second goal come directly from something the lads have been working on in training too.”
