Luke Williams Signs For Spennymoor Town

Graeme Lee has moved to further strengthen his squad with the signing of experienced midfielder Luke Williams on a permanent deal until the end of the season.

The talented 32-year-old has been training with Moors in recent weeks after most recently plying his trade in Iceland with Víkingur Ólafsvík.

Born in Middlesbrough, Williams came through the ranks with his hometown club and gained senior experience with loan spells at Hartlepool United, Scunthorpe United, Coventry City and Peterborough United.

In 2015, Williams made a permanent switch to Scunthorpe before returning to the North East to join Hartlepool where he spent three years.

After a short stint in the colours of Gateshead, Williams made his first move to Iceland but returned to the UK to re-join Scunthorpe in November 2024.

“Luke is a player I have known for a long time, and we’re delighted to bring him into the Club,” said Moors boss Lee.

“He’s got fantastic ability and is the kind of player who can excite fans, so we’re really looking forward to working with him and getting him out there on the pitch.

“Luke has been training with us and looks ever so sharp, so he gives us something a little bit different in that midfield area and I’m sure he’ll prove to be an asset.”

A former England Youth international, Williams has been handed squad number 8 and has received all necessary clearance to be in contention for a Moors debut in Saturday’s game against Radcliffe.

“I’m massively pleased to get this done,” added Williams.

“It’s something I’m really excited about and it’s just great to get it over the line with all the international clearance that was needed around it.

“I’m glad to be back home, I’m really enjoying being in training because I already know 90% of the lads – I’ve known Matty Dolan as long as I can remember and Junior Mondal is my cousin!

“I can’t wait to get back playing now. I am confident I can hit the ground running because I feel really good at the moment and I really want to help the team push up the table.”
