Sonny Sharples Joins Spennymoor On Loan

Graeme Lee has moved to strengthen his midfield options with the signing of Sonny Sharples on a loan deal from League One outfit Bolton Wanderers.

The Moors boss has been keen to add new faces to his squad and has now pushed through a deal to bring the talented 20-year-old to The Brewery Field, initially until 1st March.

A graduate of Bolton’s Academy, Sharples earned his first professional contract with The Trotters in April 2023 and went on to make his senior debut later that year.

The midfield schemer gained further First Team experience during a loan spell at Bamber Bridge in 2023/24 and earlier this season he spent time in the colours of Torquay United.

Sharples has also represented Egypt at Under-23 level when he featured in a friendly against Qatar in Doha back in March.

“We’re delighted that Sonny is joining us and we thank Bolton for their help in getting the deal done,” explained Lee.

“He’s got real ability and a fantastic pedigree having come through the ranks at Bolton and we’re excited to work with him over the coming months.

“We’ve definitely needed to strengthen in that area and we’re confident that Sonny can come in and make a real impact for us.”

Sharples has been handed squad number 15 and is eligible to make his debut for Moors in Tuesday evening’s game against Curzon Ashton.
