Moors took home the spoils after an impressive victory over Peterborough Sports in National League North at PIMS Park.
Glen Taylor opened the scoring with a powerful finish, before doubling up just after the break. Luca Miller pulled one back for The Turbines with 23 minutes to go, but Junior Mondal’s curled strike soon afterwards clinched the three points.
The hosts carved out the game’s first real chance through Mustapha Carayol, who broke into the penalty area from the left-hand side before firing an effort on goal towards the near post, which forced Brad James into a good save.
Dan Jones saw an ambitious effort go amiss when he struck an outside of the foot shot just over the bar with 19 minutes on the clock.
Moors broke the deadlock just five minutes later through captain Glen Taylor. A miss-kicked ball from Kevin Joshua allowed Rob Ramshaw to nick the ball from the defender and slip an incisive pass into the path of Taylor who took a touch and powered home past Peter Crook.
Mondal went agonisingly close to adding a second in the 26th minute when Taylor nodded the ball down into his path inside the area. The winger wriggled around a defender before prodding goalwards, only for Crook to block it on the line.
The Turbines saw a couple of half chances go begging as the first half began to wind down, first through Shaquille Coulthirst’s strike from distance, before Carayol’s free-kick flew over the bar from an awkward angle.
Taylor had an opportunity to double his tally when Mondal hung a smart ball to the back post, which met the head of our captain, only to see it go agonisingly wide of the mark.
The final chance of the half went Peterborough’s way as Carayol smashed an effort on goal, but saw his strike blocked on the edge of the area.
Moors kicked off the second half by doubling the lead in just two minutes. A flurry of efforts on the edge of the box saw Mitch Hancox get hold of the ball, before playing it through to Taylor, who made no mistake from close range and dragged his effort home into the bottom left corner.
Phil Brown’s men pulled one back in the 67th minute when Carayol’s low ball into the box found Miller at the near post, who tapped home from close range to set up a nervy end to the game.
Substitute Shaun Jeffers squandered a good chance to get his side back on level terms when he dived forward to connect with Marcel Oakley’s cross into the area. His header, however, went just wide of the right post.
Moors held their nerve and went on to grab a third with 12 minutes of normal time remaining, when Crook made a meal of claiming the ball just inside the penalty area, which allowed Mondal to win it and curl an effort around him into the bottom left corner.
Brad James was forced into some theatrics right at the end to keep the score at 3-1, as he produced a sharp double save to deny Peterborough of a foothold on a comeback.
Loan man Frank Nouble went agonisingly close to adding a fourth to the scoreline when he took the ball around Crook in The Turbines net but was denied by a brilliant block on the goal-line.
