Report: Leamington 0 Moors 2

Moors made it two successive away wins on Tuesday night as they walked away from Leamington’s Your Co-op Community Stadium with all three points.

Mackenzie Heaney opened the scoring on 42 minutes with a fantastic strike from just inside the area, before Glen Taylor doubled the lead with just over an hour on the clock, after he thumped home with a header from close range.

Moors were reduced to 10 men on the 71st minute, with Dan Jones being given his marching orders, but Graeme Lee’s men held out to secure victory.

The hosts had the first real chance of the game when Tim Berridge broke free in the area and guided a low shot on goal, only to be denied by Brad James.

Both sides saw chances to break the deadlock around the 20-minute mark, as Dan Meredith failed to find the target from the edge of the box, before Junior Mondal fired over with a volleyed attempt soon after.

Olly Dyson went close to finding the opener five minutes later, when he wriggled into the area and let fly with his left foot. However, his strike was blocked by a Brakes man.

Leamington looked certain to take the lead when Owen Farmer’s looped ball perfectly matched the run of Meredith at the back post, who tried his luck with a first-time attempt from close range, only to be brilliantly denied by James.

Despite pressure from The Brakes, it was Moors who took the lead, as Heaney found the net with three minutes of the first half remaining. A good ball down the right-hand side found the Moors winger, who cut into the area and smashed home into the top left corner.

The hosts came out for the second period looking to get themselves back on level terms, first through Meredith, who struck another effort on goal, this time seeing it fly over.

Chris Knott’s side continued to pressure the Moors defence, this time from a set piece. The corner was swung into the area, before being flicked on by Will Glennon. The ball fell to a Leamington man at the back post, who fired on goal, only to see the effort blocked on the line.

Taylor tried his luck from the edge of the area on the 62nd minute, but saw his low driven effort tipped wide for a Moors corner, from which he found the net.

Heaney whipped the corner into the penalty area, which found Taylor free in the middle of the box. The frontman got his head on it and thumped home from close range to double the lead.

Ramshaw had a chance to put the game to bed with 20 minutes to go when he was laid off by Mondal just inside the area. He struck a powerful effort on goal but saw it rise and strike the crossbar before going over.

Moors were reduced to 10 just a minute later as Jones was shown a second yellow card following a shirt pull, leaving Moors a man down with 19 minutes to go.

Defender, Meredith was up from the back again to pose threat to the Moors goal, this time breaking into the area from the right and hitting a low strike towards goal. Once again, Brad James was there to stop the danger.

The hosts had the opportunity to get themselves back in it with some good work on the right-hand side, however, Miro Pais’ cross went straight out for a goal-kick, adding to Leamington’s frustrations.

Substitute Cam Salkeld almost added a third with five minutes to play when he was slipped in behind by Ramshaw. The number 36 struck an effort over the goalkeeper, who had gone to ground, which looked destined for the net, only to be cleared off the line at the last moment.

With time winding down, Moors did well to prevent any threat from the hosts and sailed to an impressive away victory.
