Moors Ladies got back on the pitch and back to winning ways on Sunday as they came from behind to defeat Ossett United in the NERWFL Premier Division at Whitworth.
After a series of frustrating postponements, Nikita Hemmingway’s side returned to action with a fixture on home soil and chance to make up ground on the teams above them in the table.
After a cagey start with little goalmouth action in the opening 15 minutes, it was the visitors who snatched the lead when they took advantage of a defensive error to make it 1-0.
Ellie Wise almost offered an instant response for Moors but flashed a shot just wide, while Ossett threatened again when Coral Colledge produced a great block to prevent them from doubling their advantage.
It was all-square again on 36 minutes though. Great work from Wise down the right flank paved the way for Kelly Garcia to produce a composed finish and level the game up.
Holly Doogan was introduced to the action at half time and drew two good saves from the Ossett keeper as Moors looked to get on the front foot at the start of the second period.
Garcia struck the woodwork with a powerful drive before Amy Richardson fired a shot just wide before Doogan was again frustrated by the reactions of the visiting goalkeeper.
However, Doogan finally got her rewards on 78 minutes when she found the net with a brilliant effort from the edge of the area which gave Moors the lead going into the final stages.
The visiting side put some pressure on with a series of corners in injury time but Moors put their bodies on the line to defend their goal and hung on for three points.
