Moors Ladies roared back to form with a brilliant win at Sunderland West End in the NERWFL Premier Division on Sunday afternoon.
Having fallen to a surprise defeat at Wallsend last time out, Nikita Hemmingway’s side approached the weekend trip to face Sunderland with extra determination.
And they got their reward for a high tempo start to the game when Holly Doogan put them in front from a corner with just eight minutes on the clock.
A largely scrappy first half saw few chances created for either side, though Kelly Garcia did see a shot on goal deflected just wide, while Zoe Norton had an effort blocked by a defender.
Moors took a stranglehold on proceedings just before the break when Garcia volleyed home from close range to double their lead going in at half time.
The contest was effectively over just after the hour mark when brilliant work from Sophie Hodgson and Becca Drinkald created the opportunity for Doogan to smash home her second of the afternoon at the back post.
Doogan came close to clinching a hat-trick moments later when sent through on goal only to fire her shot just wide of the upright to let West End off the hook.
The hosts then rallied to draw a brilliant double save from Moors keeper Phillippa Hunter at the other end as they looked to reduce the arrears.
However, it was Moors who scored again seven minutes from time when Hodgson’s shot took a deflection off a defender and looped over the helpless home keeper for 4-0.
