Report: King’s Lynn Town 0 Moors 1

Glen Taylor’s second half header proved the difference as ten-man Moors held on to take all three points from King’s Lynn Town at The Walks Stadium.

The hosts won a penalty in the 38th minute as Olly Dyson was sent off for a challenge on Morgan Williams, only for Brad James to come up with a brilliant save to keep the scores level.

Moors grabbed the game’s only goal through their trusty frontman, who got on the end of Mackenzie Heaney’s cross and nodded home from close range with 59 minutes on the clock.

The game started slowly, with neither side able to carve out any real chances, as Ross Crane’s acrobatic effort flew well wide inside the opening 10 minutes.

Crane tried his luck again just after the 20-minute mark, but neither of his efforts from the edge of the area found their way into the back of the net.

Corey McKeown looked to break the deadlock soon after, when he found space to shoot on the edge of the 18-yard box, his low strike, however, was comfortably saved by Aaron Chapman in The Linnets net.

Chapman was called into action just shy of the half hour mark, when McKeown yet again found space to strike. The winger drove across the edge of the box from the left-hand side and struck an effort on goal, which deflected up off a King’s Lynn man and into the hands of the goalkeeper.

Things took a turn for the worst with 38 minutes on the clock, as Moors were reduced to ten. A great run from Williams saw him burst into the box, before being brought down by Dyson. The referee had no choice but to award the hosts a penalty and give Moors’ number 2 his marching orders.

Carlton Ubaezuonu stepped up and fired the spot-kick towards the bottom right corner, which was brilliantly clawed away by Brad James, who got up quickly to claim it before anyone could follow up.

The hosts looked to pull themselves in front on the stroke of half time, but Jayden Davis’ ambitious effort soared well wide of the mark.

Moors started the second half the better, despite being a man down. Loanee, Louis Stephenson got into a good position on the right-hand side, before flashing an inviting ball across the face of goal, only to see it cleared.

Tom Broadbent was on hand to prevent a dangerous looking attack from Ubaezuonu, as the Moors defender produced a smart sliding challenge to take the ball away from the front man.

It was Moors who went on to open the scoring just before the hour as Glen Taylor grabbed his 21st goal of the season. A free-kick from the left-hand side, courtesy of Mackenzie Heaney, found Taylor at the front post, who nodded a downward header past Chapman and into the back of the net.

Taylor could’ve had a second just five minutes later when Rob Ramshaw’s long ball found the forward, who looked to hit an effort on the half-volley, only to see it saved by Chapman.

Both sides saw half chances go begging around the 70th minute mark, as Crane’s low ball into the area was claimed by James, before Ramshaw smashed an effort over the bar from distance.

James was on hand to prevent any danger when he caught Crane’s looping ball to the back post, before substitute Terry Bondo, failed to find the target soon after.

The Moors number one wasn’t done there, as he produced a brilliant double save with four minutes to go. James saved the initial strike from the edge of the area, before getting in the way of, and then smothering Jack Lambert’s follow up.

Moors could’ve sewn it up late on, when McKeown skipped into space on the left-hand side and fired a ball across goal towards the back post, but a King’s Lynn man was there to clear.

Both goalkeepers had to be alert in stoppage time. Chapman did well to deny Cam Salkeld’s curling effort from inside the area, before James got up well to claim Crane’s corner.

More heroics were to follow, as James yet again stepped up for his side. With the five minutes of added time already up, Ubaezuonu struck a wicked effort on goal from the edge of the area, which Moors’ number one did well to parry wide at his left-hand side.
