Miller Excited By A Summer Of Hard Work

Tommy Miller has admitted he is relishing the hard work that lies ahead this summer after he was confirmed as the Club’s new permanent manager.

Having returned to The Brewery Field on an interim basis at the end of February, Miller worked alongside Matty Dolan to oversee a late charge towards the play-offs.

In the end, Moors once again fell just short of the top seven, but the improved form landed Miller the top job and now he’s excited to get down to business.

“I though during the 15 games I had the lads gave me everything,” he told us.

“We saw some fantastic performances, against Kidderminster especially, but we also matched South Shields and had great away wins at Merthyr and Macclesfield, so it gives us a platform to move forward.

“The priority for us now is to look after our own team and the lads we already have at the Club who we want to keep – we’ve got to get them tied down.

“We have got targets in mind if they weren’t to agree to the terms we’re offering so we’ll work through that list very soon because we want to try and get everything done really early.

“The focus is on having a strong pre-season; we’ve already got some great games lined up so hopefully we can kick on from there and hit the ground running.

“We need to be fit and if a player isn’t fit, he won’t play for me. We want to be on the front foot, playing attacking football and entertaining.

“The messages to the attacking players will be to have the freedom to excite and create but we also need a structure behind that.

“Fans will get an idea from pre-season about what formation we’d like to go with, but we also want to be flexible because it’s important to have a Plan B and we will work on that too.”

Miller has had the time to reflect on his previous spell in charge at The Brewery Field, and he is clear on what things he would like to do differently this time around.

“I was quite hands on a lot when I was here before.

“I wanted to do everything and reflecting on that afterwards I realised I was probably doing too much, and you can try and give other people some of that responsibility, at the right times.

“I have had a lot of time in football and played under some good managers so during my time out I’ve reflected, been to watch a lot of games as well as training sessions at different clubs.

“I would like to think now that I am coming back here as a better person, a better coach and a better manager.”
