Moors Youth Seniors fell short in the Washington Aged Persons Trophy Final as Belmont United ran out comfortable winners at New Ferens Park.
An early goal from Daniel Cummings opened the scoring for Moors as he capitalised on a mistake from the Belmont goalkeeper. The number 10 latched onto the loose ball and fired home from the edge of the area to give his side the lead.
The hosts drew level with 34 minutes on the clock, as Liam Butler connected with an in-swinging corner before heading home from close range.
Belmont took the lead just four minutes later, as Butler once again found the back of the net. A clearance from Moors deflected into the path of the number 9, who fired a powerful effort into the bottom right corner of the net
Butler got his hat-trick with just two minutes of the first half remaining, when Lamin Bojang found space inside the area to strike. His shot deflected into the path of Butler, who made no mistake from close range and tapped home.

It was four for both the hosts and Butler in first half stoppage time, as his downward header at the back post found the bottom corner to round off a ridiculous goalscoring first half.
Moors were subjected to another goal just after the break, when Butler’s low strike was parried into the path of Lewis Hamilton, who found the bottom right corner of the net with a tidy finish.
It would’ve been six for the hosts soon after, but a brilliant save from substitute goalkeeper, Travis Dixon, prevented the damage, as he flew to his left to parry a powerful effort from close range over the bar.
Butler got his fifth of the afternoon with 21 minutes left to play, as he dispossessed a STYFC defender on the edge of the penalty area, before finding the back of the net from inside the area.
Belmont rounded off their goalscoring antics in the 79th minute as Niall Fingleton rounded Dixon in the Moors net before calmly slotting the ball home from close range, securing the cup final glory.
Things went from bad to worse late on as Regan Nixon was sent off for dissent by the referee.
A tough afternoon at New Ferens Park for STYFC Seniors, but a season to be proud of in their first year in the Wearside Leagues.
