Moors have agreed a deal to sign highly rated centre-back Frankie Whelan from Whitby Town for an undisclosed fee.
The 22-year-old has impressed during a two-year stay at The Towbar Express Stadium, earning the Players’ Player of the Year award during his debut season in 2024/25.
Whelan, who was previously on the books of hometown club Middlesbrough from Under-15s level, will become Tommy Miller’s second signing of the summer following the capture of Louis Stephenson on a permanent deal.
A composed and ball-playing defender who can operate centrally or at right-back when called upon, Whelan has become a fans favourite at Whitby following a series of dominant displays at the back.
“We liked what we’ve seen of Frankie and it’s an exciting signing for us,” explained Moors boss Tommy Miller.
“He’s a committed defender but he’s also good on the ball, has excellent technique and is still at a very good age to keep getting better.
“Coming through the ranks at Middlesbrough, we know he’s got a good pedigree and he’s proved himself in senior football with two excellent seasons at Whitby.
“We’re looking forward to working with Frankie in the coming years and hopefully seeing him develop even further in a black and white shirt.”
Whelan has agreed terms on a contract with Moors for the 2026/27 campaign with an option for a further year built into the deal.
