Fifty50: Dan Jones

Defender Dan Jones is next to take up his place in the hotseat as he selects some questions at random from our 50Fifty index…

12 What was the first job you wanted as a kid?
I always wanted to be a cowboy. It was inspired by John Wayne because I always used to go round to my grandparents’ house, and I would watch his films with my grandad. I loved watching all the Westerns and that’s what made me want to be a cowboy.

6 Would you rather be constantly sticky or constantly itchy?
Itchy. I don’t like being sticky at all; if your hands are sticky, you can’t touch anything. At least if you’re just itchy you can get on with your day! I hate it when the kids come up to me with sticky hands, it’s awful.

5 How far would you get on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?
I reckon I could get a million! But that is only in my own head! To be fair, I am quite good on quiz shows but is there a time limit on Millionaire? If I am on the clock and under pressure, then I am not so good – I like to really digest the question and take my time!

34 is the toilet roll in your house installed with the flap over or under?
Haha, you’re lucky if it’s on the roll in my house. It’s usually just sitting on the back of the toilet because we’ve got this holder that’s really fiddly so I usually can’t be bothered to install it in there.

44 If something breaks in your house, what’s the first thing you do?
Ring my dad. No, I am quite handy, and I like doing that sort of DIY stuff, but my dad only lives two minutes away and I know he likes to feel useful so will always come round! Haha!  It’s usually my missus who will ring him because she says any repairs will have to be redone if I do them myself!

14 What is your normal pre-match meal?
I don’t really have a normal one. I don’t like to have a lot of food before a game these days, I tend to go with a protein shake or something like that because it feels lighter. I used to have beans on toast, but I mix it up these days.

39 Do you believe in ghosts?
No, not at all. My missus does and she argues about it with me. Apparently, she saw my grandad at the top of our stairs once and she insists that I did as well, but I didn’t! My grandma and my wife are believers though.

50 What’s your best chat-up line?
Haha, I don’t really have one, to be honest. I met my wife online, so I think I just said “Alright?” – haha! You just introduce yourself and go from there, don’t you?

29 Who is the most famous person you’ve ever met?
I met Sir Bobby Robson. I went to get my book signed at an event he was doing in Stanley. I went with my mam, and I would say he’s probably the most famous person I’ve met – but he’s good one, isn’t he?

25 If you could invite two celebrities round for dinner, who would they be?
Living or dead, yeah? I would go for Elvis. I reckon he’d get an invite because I like him, and all my family would be really jealous if I got to meet him! They can watch from through the window, haha! I would also probably invite Tiger Woods. I like my golf and he’s an icon – and he could give me some good tips, I imagine!
