Tommy Miller has added further firepower to his squad ahead of the new campaign after winning the race to secure the signature of highly rated front man Danny Johnson.
A host of clubs were monitoring the 33-year-old following his release from Hartlepool United, but Moors have moved quickly to bring the talented forward to The Brewery Field on a two-year deal.
Having begun his career in the youth ranks at Middlesbrough and Hartlepool, Johnson moved into non-league football where a prolific period at Guisborough Town earned him a move to Cardiff City in 2014.
Loan moves to Tranmere Rovers and Stevenage followed before Johnson returned to the North East to sign for Gateshead in 2015 where he went on to enjoy three productive seasons.
His form for The Heed Army drew interest and he penned a two-year deal with Scottish Premiership outfit Motherwell in the summer of 2018, going on to score against Rangers and fire a double in their 3-0 win over Aberdeen.
After a short stint with Dundee, Johnson returned to England to join Leyton Orient in January 2020 before moving on to Mansfield Town in the summer of 2021.
A goal-laden loan spell at Walsall paved the way for a permanent switch to The Saddlers in 2023 and the forward was a popular figure during his two-year stay before he made the return to Hartlepool last season.
“To be able to bring a player of Danny’s quality and experience is brilliant for us,” explained Moors boss Miller.
“Danny’s goalscoring record speaks for itself, and we’re delighted to have been able to add him to the squad because we think he can make a real difference.
“He had a frustrating time at Hartlepool last season, but that works in our favour in some ways because I can sense a real hunger from him to show what he’s capable of.
“It makes me excited looking at the options we have in attack now because we have all different kinds of players, but all of them know where the net is.”
Johnson has been handed squad number 39 for the 2026/27 campaign, and his move to The Brewery Field is subject to the usual FA and National League clearance.
