The Club has once again invested in the pitch at The Brewery Field to ensure it’s looking at its best as the 2026/27 big kick-off approaches.

Tommy Miller’s men are in the midst of a testing pre-season campaign and will play their second friendly on home soil this weekend when FC Halifax Town are the visitors.

Fans who come along to enjoy the action will no doubt notice the playing surface looking immaculate after yet another summer of hard work from staff and volunteers.

“We’re really pleased with the way things have progressed since the end of last season,” explained Head Groundsman, Mark Sleightholme.

“There is a lot of work gone in to make sure that the players have a pitch to play on that we can all be proud of and we’re happy with how things have gone.”

Since that final game of 2025/26 against Marine, Sleightholme has overseen the installation of 65 French drains which will help to alleviate previous issues with drainage.

The pitch has also benefitted from 87 tonnes of sand top dressing before seeding, while the whole area was also vertidrained and scarified during the process.

To make things more complex for Sleightholme and his team, a National League audit resulted in the entire playing area having to be moved 12.2 inches towards the Main Stand – another huge task successfully undertaken during the summer.

“I couldn’t do this alone and I would like to thank every single one of the volunteers who have given up their time and put in some real graft this summer,” Sleightholme added.

“The pitch will be among the best in National League North once again so hopefully it provides the platform for another successful season.”
