It ended all square at The Brewery Field as Moors fought back to equalise three times against Newcastle United U21s.
The visitors opened the scoring through Trevan Sanusi from the spot, before Moors found the net through a spot-kick of their own from Richie Bennett. Matheos Ferreira put the visitors back in front just before the break, only for Bennett to double up and head home just shy of the hour.
Substitute, Alfie Seldon found the bottom right corner of the net with 18 minutes to go, but thanks to a backpost header from Frankie Whelan, the game finished level.
Both sides had chances early on in the game, as Anthony Munda’s curling strike was headed over the bar by Dan Jones, before Junior Mondal saw his low driven effort stopped by the Newcastle ‘keeper.
Vakhtang Salia saw two good chances go begging around the quarter hour mark, as his shot on the turn was saved by Moors’ trialist goalkeeper. He dragged another effort just wide of the left post soon after.
A foul on Sanusi inside the area gave Robbie Stockdale’s side a penalty on the 19th minute, which Sanusi took and smashed home down the middle of the net to put his side ahead.
It didn’t take long for Moors to win a penalty of their own, as Bennett was fouled inside the area just 4 minutes later. He stepped up and sent Mair the wrong way, levelling things up.
Rob Ramshaw’s ball across the face of goal looked to pose danger, but a deflected flick off the heel of a Newcastle defender allowed Mair to claim. Mason Miley looked to get himself on the scoresheet soon after, but saw the strike caught by Moors’ trialist goalkeeper.
The visitors took the lead just seconds before the break in spectacular fashion as Ferreira beat two Moors men on the edge of the box before dispatching an effort into the top left corner.
It took Moors just 14 second half minutes to equalise again, as Bennett got his second of the match. A smart free-kick to the far post from Jack Jenkins found the number 26, who headed the ball back across goal and into the back of the net.
Robbie Stockdale’s side then re-took the lead with 72 minutes on the clock through substitute, Alfie Seldon. The number 22 took a great touch to open his body inside the area, before drilling an effort across the face of goal and into the bottom right corner.
Moors were forced to come from behind yet again, and found their third equaliser of the evening on 82 minutes. A looping ball to the far post from a trialist found Whelan at the far post, who headed home from close range.
Tommy Miller’s side could’ve gone on to win the game late on, but a defensive block from a Newcastle man prevented Matty Dolan’s free-kick from the edge of the area from finding the net.
Focus now shifts to Rob Ramshaw’s Testimonial match against Gateshead on Saturday at The Brewery Field.
